Currently Reading & Reviews To Look Out For!

Hey guys! How’s your week been? Mine was pretty good, although I was working all week (hence the lack of posts) but I am happy to be done that and heading to the cottage next week.

Today I thought that I would talk a bit about the book I am currently reading, the next one on my tbr, and some that I’ve recently finished and am going be posting reviews of soon!

I recently read We Are Okay by Nina Lacour and We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, each of them in one sitting and they were both great. I am going to save most of my thoughts for the reviews and my July wrap up but both were super solid reads!

On Monday when I was at Chapters I picked up Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco, which I had been meaning to read for a while!

Here is the Goodreads synopsis for you to read:

Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord’s daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.

Against her stern father’s wishes and society’s expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle’s laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.
So basically its everything I’ve been recently craving in a book, historical fiction, kick butt women, and a bit of a mystery. I am about 100 pages in right now and I can definitely say that it is delivering just that! I plan on reading more of it tonight (since I can finally stay up super late and sleep in tomorrow lol) and then hopefully finish it tomorrow!

My next read is an exciting one: Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco, the sequel to Stalking Jack the Ripper, which I received an ARC (advanced reader copy) of!

I was DELIGHTED when HBG Canada emailed me asking me if I wanted a copy and I had coincidentally just bought the first books! I am hoping it’ll be as good as the first one it so far!

I am thinking that I will do a double review post with both the first and second book once I am finished them! Would you guys like to see that?!

Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco is on sale in September so make sure to look out for it!

On a semi-different note, I applied for a part time job at Chapters a few days ago! I have been wanting to work there for years, but I had to be 16, and I finally am 16 so I applied! Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I honestly think I would be perfect for the job! Fingers crossed I get an interview!

What books have you been reading this past week? Did you find any new favourites? Let me know in a comment, I’d love to chat!

Also! I am currently holding some polls on my Twitter (@EmmaTheBook) about which books I should bring to the cottage next week, so make sure to follow me and vote to help me decide!

  2. Hopefully you get the job, I’m sure you will be great! Recently I have been reading Lilly Singh’s How To Be a Bawse, it isn’t a fiction book but it is still great and has some useful tips in its own way. It sucks that my town is a but limited when it comes to books and Stalking Jack the Ripper sounds like a great book, so I’ll be on the lookout for it.

      1. I’m pretty sure she only has one book at the moment, and yes it is very good! Her humour is throughout the book and she talks about her personal experiences with Youtube and how she managed to get to where she is at now to help make her point in a way that engages the reader

  3. Oh Kerri Maniscalco’s books are high on my to-read list. Like you Stalking Jack the Ripper sounds like everything I want in a book and I need to get around to it soon, I may end up waiting until Hunting Prince Dracula is released before starting it though.
I really hope you enjoy both. That’s great news about getting an ARC of the second book, and oh good luck with your Chapters application. I imagine working in a bookstore would be amazing! 😀

  4. Ohhh We Should All Be Feminists has been recommended to me by my Queer Studies teacher!!! She keeps raving about the author and we watched one of her videos where she read out a poem of hers (I forgot what you call that thing WAIT NO IT’S SLAM POETRY RIGHT? or like spoken word poetry WHATEVER) and I loved it so much!! I really need to read her books!
