Hello bookworms! I am here today with a post all about what book I am currently reading and some books I’ve recently acquired that I’m planning on reading soon! I wanted to do this because I feel like I never talk to you guys about the book I’m currently reading unless you follow me on other social medias like bookstagram or goodreads! So I thought I’d share!
I am currently reading a fairly new release, Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones.
I was seeing this around instagram, read the synopsis and was instantly hooked! The next time I was at the bookstore I picked it up! Now I am 200+ pages in and its super interesting and different! I am hoping to finish it before the end of the month! Has anyone else read Wintersong? If so, let me know if you liked it or not! (Without spoilers of course)
Now to talk about the books I need to get to in the next month or so!
If you know me or have been following my blog for a while, you know, or can tell by the fact that I’ve never made a monthly or season TBR post, that I don’t make TBR’s because I am a mood reader. I have one huge TBR of what I want to read in my life, but I don’t set lists on what to read, I just pick up what I want. That being said, I’ve bought some pretty awesome sounding books this month and I KNOW that they’ll be the next ones I pick up!
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed.
Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr.
But what Starr does or does not say could upend her community. It could also endanger her life.
First of all the book is a diverse read and of a topic I’ve never read, or even see a YA book about which is so important. Also its been getting noting but raving reviews and has over 4.7 stars on goodreads. It’s on my shelf so why not pick it up next?
Jo Montfort is beautiful and rich, and soon—like all the girls in her class—she’ll graduate from finishing school and be married off to a wealthy bachelor. Which is the last thing she wants. Jo secretly dreams of becoming a writer—a newspaper reporter like the trailblazing Nellie Bly.
Wild aspirations aside, Jo’s life seems perfect until tragedy strikes: her father is found dead. Charles Montfort accidentally shot himself while cleaning his revolver. One of New York City’s wealthiest men, he owned a newspaper and was partner in a massive shipping firm, and Jo knows he was far too smart to clean a loaded gun.
The more Jo uncovers about her father’s death, the more her suspicions grow. There are too many secrets. And they all seem to be buried in plain sight. Then she meets Eddie—a young, brash, infuriatingly handsome reporter at her father’s newspaper—and it becomes all too clear how much she stands to lose if she keeps searching for the truth. Only now it might be too late to stop.
The past never stays buried forever. Life is dirtier than Jo Montfort could ever have imagined, and the truth is the dirtiest part of all.
And the next book I’m planning on reading is These Shallow Graves! I recently got it in a bookoutlet purchase and it just seems super mysterious and its also set in New York, the greatest city in the world! (anyone catch the Hamilton reference?😉)
If you have read any of these books please let me know if you enjoyed them, I’d love to chat! Also, let me know what you are currently reading! Are you liking it so far?
I also have a bookstagram, it’s EmmaTheBookLover, if you didn’t know, and feel free to add me on goodreads!
I am currently reading the Girl Online series, I know the reviews on it weren’t that great, but I read it once and enjoyed it so am now reading it again because why not? Haha
