Help! I Need Recommendations!

Hey guys! So I’m just writing this little post right now for one main reason. I need recommendations for books, in two separate genres specifically.

Firstly, I’ve been really enjoying reading collections of poetry recently and I’ve read a few, Milk And Honey and Whiskey Words and a Shovel, and I’m looking for more similar to that to read. If you know any like those collections, or ones you just think I’d like, please leave a comment telling me the title and author so I can add it to my goodreads! (PS The Princess Saves Herself In This One is already on my radar, they just didn’t have it at my local bookstore the last time I went to it)

And secondly, I’m also looking for YA historical fiction reccomendations. I really enjoy this genre, The Book Thief is my favourite book in the whole world, but I actually haven’t read much from the genre. I also really enjoyed Salt To The Sea by Ruta Sepetye, so if you know any books similar to that let me know!

That’s it for this post, thanks to anyone who gives me reccomendations and I hope you have a good rest of your night !

  1. YA historical fiction wise. I’d recommend All The Light We Cannot See if you enjoyed the book thief and haven’t already read it! I loved them both. It’s about a blind French girl during WW2.

    1. Actually looking at The Universe Of Us on goodreads, I think I saw it at the bookstore the other day, darn why didn’t I look at it more closely.

  2. Have you read Between Shades of Gray and Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys? If not they’re just as good as Salt to the Sea! Also, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr is a great historical fiction along with The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah! Those two probably aren’t ya historical fiction but they’re amazing!

    1. I’ve been recommended All The Light We Cannot See a few times in the comments of this post and I’m so happy because I didn’t even know it was historical fiction but I somehow own it, I’m definitely picking it up tonigh and also once I get the rest of Ruta’s books I’ll be reading them for sure.

  3. I think you’ll enjoy The Bone Sparrow, a lot! It’s essentially Historical Fiction, but it has hints of Fantasy. But it’s really poignant and just overall lovely.

    1. AH I saw that at the bookstore but didn’t end up reading it or buying it while I was there, now I’ll for sure read it next time !!

  4. I’m not sure if this counts as YA but Khaled Hosseini’s historical fiction books are my favorites πŸ™‚ & Also Between Shades of Gray if you haven’t read that yet!

  5. In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters is really amazing if you like stories set in WWI. Very atmospheric πŸ™‚ If you like the WWII I haven’t read these yet but the premises sound super interesting. Wolf by Wolf, Prisoner of Night and Fog, Code Name Verity πŸ™‚

  6. I adored Milk and Honey and then I went on to read Love and Misadventures by Lang Leav. It’s rather different in the sense its of course very much focused on Love and they mostly rhyme. I didn’t like it as much as Milk and Honey but there was a few I enjoyed. Lang Leav has a few poetry books that people seem to enjoy!

In terms of Historical Fiction, one book I have read which has been shelved by a few people on Goodreads as Historical Fiction but you may want to check it out for yourself to see what you think. It’s called A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libby Bray. It features a Victorian Boarding School and India in 1895 I believe! It was so long since I read it – I can’t remember exactly!
