Spoiler Free Thoughts:
I don’t really reach for fantasy much (well I do now because of this book) unless I have heard amazing things, and I had heard amazing things about acotar, so last year about a month after it came out I bought it, and it sat on my shelf for about a year. FINALLY I picked it up at the end of May and, well you could say I’m in love.
Even though in the past year I haven’t been reading a ton of fantasy, before that I read mostly fantasy. I got sucked into the world of contemporaries in 2015, but now having read more diverse genres this year I feel like acotar has got me back into fantasy and I’m so happy about that. Also this was my first Sarah J. Maas book and I follow her on Instagram and everything so I knew she was such chill and nice but now I understand why everyone loves her books!
It’s a loose Beauty and Beast retelling and I loooooooveeeeeeeeee that fairytale so that was one aspect that I loved. But it didn’t feel like she was copying that story, acotar still had its own story, the premis was just like B&TB.
The world building was so good. Everything was explained in a easy to understand way but the world wasn’t too simple or boring. There is a map at the front too so if I was every a bit confused I just looked at the map and I was like ah yes.
I really like Feyre, the main character which is good because if you don’t like the main character then that hinders your reading experience. She’s likeable and not annoying.
The overall plot is fast paced and interesting, I read acotar in less than two days, I literally couldn’t put it down. And once I finished I was dying to get my hands on acomaf.
If you haven’t read acotar yet, and you like fantasy, I highly encourage you pick this up, you will not be disappointed.
IT WAS JUST A REALLY GOOD BOOK!
I’m reading this after I finish Glass Sword. I actually didn’t know it was a loose Beauty and the Beast retelling; I’m incredibly more excited than I already was to read it 😍. Great review! I can’t wait to read it for myself. 😊

ACOTAR has been on my TBR for so long now – I’ve just never been able to pick it up, although I absolutely adore Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series (sans Throne of Glass – the three books that follow it are much better 😅).

Yayyy! It feels good knowing that I wasn’t the very last person on the planet to read this awesome book! I just posted my own review of ACOTAR because it really got under my skin! The fantasy world, the dynamic characters and the plot filled with passion and suspense – it was EVERYTHING I look for in a book. And being someone who doesn’t read much fantasy, I thought it was the perfect book to start the journey with. This is the first Sarah Maas book that I read, and I definitely see myself getting lost in more of her books!
