January 2016 Wrap Up

January is over already, I can’t believe it! I read a total of four books this month and I am so proud of that considering I had so many projects to do and papers to write this month and exams, I never even though I would finish more than 2 books! That does put me one book behind on my Goodreads challenge but I’m not worried, I usually read 5+ books a month but 7+ in the summer so there’s pleanty of room to catch up, especially since it’s only one books. But out of the books I read I only really loved one of them but that book was AMAZING so it made up for the okay/not good books I read.

I started the month off by reading The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness and I was soooo excited to read this book because so many people love Ness’s books but it ended up falling flat for me and I gave it 3/5 stars. If you want to read all the details of my likes and dislikes for this book check out my review here.

Then I picked up Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy and sped through it fairly quickly. It had a very inspirational idea to it and I definitely enjoyed it while I was reading it but it didn’t really blow me away or anything so I gave it 4/5 stars. (Click here for my full review.)

Next I read decided to try out another Patrick Ness book and read A Monster Calls. THIS BOOOOOOK ripped my hear out and tore it into a million pieces, it was amazing. I’m so happy that I read I, if you want to read in detail everything I liked, check out my review here, and I gave it 5/5 stars. It’s only a month into 2016 and I already know it’ll be on my favourites list at the end of the year.

And lastly, I ended off this month with Movie Game by Michale Ebner which I was kindly sent to for review through Net Galley. Now, I don’t actually know when/or if this book has come out yet because I got it sent to me in November and then on Net Galley the release day keeps getting pushed  back but on Goodreads and Amazon it says it came out on September 15th, the original release date so I have no clue if this book is actually out yet or not but bottom line I didn’t really enjoy it. The whole book, you just followed around the main character Joe who just did pretty ordinary stuff, it was just so bland. Nothing happened in the ploy until the end and I literally had to force myself to keep reading because 1) I wanted to see if it got better and 2) I don’t like DNFing books so I couldn’t stop reading it. In the end I gave it 1.5/5 stars and I’ll be putting a review for it up in the next few days.

Overall it wasn’t too bad of a start to my 2016 reading year. Did you guys have a good reading month?  Are there any books that you read that completely blew you away? Let me know in the comments I’d love to chat!

    1. Thanks! Yes now that I’ve read A Monster Calls I see what all of the hype is about! And now that I’ve read this edition I’m definitely going to pick up the illustrated edition!

    1. Hahaha yes me too!! I really want to read some of his other books because in the two books of his that I’ve rad, the writing has been one of my favourite parts.
